Few days after Benin residents took to Twitter to share photos of the bad state of roads in Edo State, calling the government to repair them, a 60-year-old man is reported to have tripped, fallen and died in a drain due to the flood.
According to report, the deceased identified as Osarobo Obayuwana, who recently lost his wife, was on his way home on that fateful day before the tragic incident that claimed his life happened at First Powerline Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was said that the deceased was trying to cross an open drainage system when he fell in. He called for help but could not be saved before he was washed away by the flood.
“We were all crying for help but no one came. He went to buy some food for his aged mother before he died while trying to cross over,” Izekor Isoken, his relative, told the press.
Izekor added that “If the drainage had been well done, the man would not have died. We have been abandoned with no good roads. We make payments but we do not get power supply.”
