19 year old19 year old US based footballer Fikayo Idowu hung out with friends and heard that they had planned to go swimming in a lake 40 miles northeast of Columbus when the sad incident occurred on friday.
A dive team searched for him and later recovered his body from the lake. He was rushed to the Columbus hospital where he was certified dead.
His friend Jensen said “I just figured I’d stay home. I had to lift, I had to practice. We kind of hung up the phone, and we kind of just looked at each other wondering if it was real.”
“I didn’t believe it at first,” another teammate Tyler Kidwell said. “He was one of my best friends on the team.”
His coach John Bluem said Idowu was an “unbelievably good human being.”
“He was a very quiet kid, very intelligent, marvelous athlete, really, really hard worker… always a smile and always a pleasant person to be around,” he said
