Oba Of Benin Dies At 93

The 38th Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo n'Oba n'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa I, is dead. He died Friday afternoon at the age of 93.

 His death was announced few minutes ago by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe. The late monarch had been battling an unknown illness since last year. He succeeded his father, Oba Akenzua on 23 March 1979 and actively ruled till last year when he fell ill. May his soul Rest In Peace

Buhari's Reaction To Fulani Herdsmen Is Shocking- Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed his disappointment at President Muhammadu Buhari for his reaction to increasing attacks and killings by herdsmen in several states in the country.
In an address to the National Conference on Culture and Tourism on Wednesday said he was shocked by the President’s claim that the attacks would soon be over,Punch reports.


He said,

“When I read a short while ago, the Presidential assurance to this nation that the current homicidal escalation between the cattle prowlers and farming communities would soon be over, I felt mortified.
“He had the solution, he said. Cattle ranches were being set up, and in another 18 months, rustlings, destruction of livelihood and killings from herdsmen would be ‘a thing of the past’. Eighteen months, he assured the nation. I believe his Minister of Agriculture echoed that later, but with a less dispiriting time schema.
“Neither, however, could be considered a message of solace and reassurance for the ordinary Nigerian farmer and the lengthening cast of victims, much less to an intending tourist to the Forest Retreat of Tinana in the Rivers, the Ikogosi Springs or the Moslem architectural heritage of the ancient city of Kano. In any case, the external tourists have less hazardous options.”

President Buhari Bans Medical Trips For Govt Officials

The Federal Government said it has stopped providing resources to government officials to travel abroad for medical attention on cases that could be handled in the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 56th Annual General Conference and delegates meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, in Sokoto, President Muhammadu Buhari, said his administration would not encourage expending hard earned resources on any government official seeking medical care abroad.
Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, said “While this administration will not deny anyone of his or her fundamental human rights, we will certainly not encourage expending Nigerian hard-earned resources on any government official seeking medical care abroad, when such can be handled in Nigeria.”

Buhari urged health professionals to avoid inter-professional crises which had impacted negatively on the nation’s healthcare delivery system.
“We have seen the hazards that this unfortunate and highly preventable problems have caused to the quality of health care delivery in Nigeria.
“May I employ members of NMA to always imbibe the spirit of team work to ensure harmonious relationship with other health professionals, no profession can effectively and efficiently function without the other”


“Government will review all previous agreements and take reasonable decisions that will not infringe on the right of the workers and also invest in programmes that will improve capacity of all cadres of health workers,” the minister quoted the President to have said.

I woke up this morning to an ordinary day. The weather was perfect and there was a sense of hope that filled the air........ Until I turned my phone on and the world turned upside down.
I'm going to be 40 in a few days and I thought I had seen it all. Despite all the rumors about the Baloguns, I always presumed all was well on the Homefront and they were just rumors. My phone rang and it was my radio wife @kaylahoniwo calling, after a brief conversation, we both agreed upon the fact that his account must have been hacked. This is not the Tunji I know.
The one I know is the most wonderful person on earth and if there is anyone I owe a Favour Tunji is that one person. I remember when I returned from California in 2013, I had become the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Nickelodeon KCA and it seemed a bigger deal to Tunji than even to me that won the award. He had on my behalf reached out to the press to celebrate this achievement which he described as 'major' in his own words.
Then I had my public meltdown when my previous relationship failed he and @aimakhutoyin were the first people to reach out to me to console me and my respect for him grew. Then there was this one time, on Saint Valentine's day, when Lagos seemed to have run out of flowers and I remembered that @thepoloavenue had an event the night before and they had the most breathtaking white roses I had ever seen. I went over to get some of the flowers for bae and lo and behold Tee Billz was there with similar intentions.
I saw him as the most romantic husband and lover. In the same vein, when speaking to Tiwa during an interview on @coolfmlagos she was all over him. Purring like a cat at each mention of his name. I am still hoping an announcement will be made that his account was hacked... However, if at all the rumor turns out to be true, I implore each and everyone of us not to judge them, instead, let's keep them in our prayers. #BeautifulCouple #BeautifulPeople

Iggy Azalea is calling out Beyoncé for use of ‘Becky’ as being racist towards white women.
Iggy Azalea, 25,  called out a fan for calling her a “Becky,” but in the process she dissed Beyonce, 34, for using the term in her lyric about husband Jay Z‘s alleged cheating. Man Sues Snapchat Over Car Crash That Damaged His Brain

An accident victim  in Georgia is suing Snapchat for his crash , claiming the messaging app “motivated” the careless driver who hit his car last year, leaving him with permanent brain damage.
The suit, from former Uber driver Wentworth Maynard, says Snapchat was “the critical cause” of the crash, thanks to a filter urging users to show the speed of their cars.

Maynard and his wife were merging onto a highway near Atlanta Sept. 10 when they were struck by Christal McGee, according to court docs.

McGee, who had three passengers, was barreling down the road at more than 100 mph while taking selfies with Snapchat’s speed filter. The app awards a “trophy” to users who post pics showing off their speed.
The filter “facilitated McGee’s excessive speeding” and “distracted” her in the moments before the crash, the suit says.
McGee was going about 107 mph when she hit Maynard’s Mitsubishi Outlander, the suit says.
She kept snapping even after impact. A photo released by Maynard's attorneys shows McGee in an ambulance gurney, with blood running down her face, under the caption, "Lucky to be alive."

Nigerian Man Breaks 187-yr-Old Record At The University London

A Nigerian Professor Abiodun Alao will today deliver a professorial inaugural lecture at King’s College, University of London, making him first black African scholar to deliver such lecture since the school was established in 1829.
 He is a Professor of African Studies and was conferred with professorial title about two years ago alongside a Nigerian counterpart in the institution’s African Leadership Centre, Prof. Funmi Olonisakin, making them the first black Africans to attain professorial cadre at the institution since its establishment.

The appointments have been confirmed in a letter by the institution’s President and Principal, Prof. Edward Byrne AC, which justified their elevations at the instance of their contributions to African peace and security.

 The institution has produced 12 nobel laureates among its professors.
