APC Accuses PDP Of Sponsoring Militant Group, Niger Delta Avengers

The All Progressives Congress has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of sponsoring the new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, to launch series of attacks against oil pipelines in the Niger Delta.

The South South zone of the APC, in a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, condemned the renewed militant attacks in the region, and said the main objective of the Niger Delta Avengers was to frustrate and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Foremost Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji has been dragged to court by one Lagos based lawyer, Olumide Babalola.

PMNews reported that the case is before the Lagos High Court for several reliefs bordering on unauthorized and offensive use of picture.

In Suit No. LD/3265MFHR/2016 before Hon. Justice O.H. Oshodi, the lawyer sued the blogger for damages in the sum of N50m for the unauthorized use of his picture on her blog for crime-related stories which he claimed has subjected him to mental and psychological torture in violation of his constitutional right to dignity of human person and freedom from degrading treatment.

Muhammad Ali Is Dead

A day after he was rushed to hospital with difficulty breathing, Muhammad Ali has passed on.

The legendary boxer widely regarded as the best of all time died with his family at his side yesterday evening.

Ali was on life support at a hospital outside Phoenix, Arizona, after he was found 'barely breathing' at his home on Thursday. He was taken to hospital on Thursday but his respiratory problems was likely to be complicated by his Parkinson's disease.

Gunmen Invade Gov Ambode's Mother's Home

Heavily armed gunmen on Friday evening invaded the residence of Christianah Ambode, the mother of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, disarming the octogenarian’s police detail in an apparent attempt to abduct her.

According to Premium Times, The incident occurred at 24 Oguntona Crescent, Gbagada Estate I, Lagos at approximately 7:30 p.m., neighbours said.

The police officers manning Mrs. Ambode’s home were “overpowered and dispossessed of their rifles,” sources said.
Mrs. Ambode was, however, fortunate, as a swift reinforcement by the state’s police command thwarted the ploy of the assailants, who fled the scene. The back-up team arrived at 8:10 p.m., the sources said

Buhari And Jonathan In Secret Meeting Over Niger Delta Crisis And Anti-Corruption Probe

President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday night met behind closed doors inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which was held at the private residence of the President held to discuss the Niger Delta crisis took place around 9PM on Thursday.


Sahara reporters had revealed that the former president abruptly left his home hometown Otueke less than 24 hours after returning from Cote D'Ivoire.
A source told Sahara reporters that President Buhari reassured the former president of his highest regards and made it clear to him that there was no plan to arrest him or his wife, Patience over the ongoing corruption clampdown.

The meeting Sahara reporters learnt was brokered by former President Olusegun Obasanjo shortly after news broke that Jonathan had taken refuge in Abidjan fearing that he would be arrested in he returned to Nigeria. Obasanjo who was in Lesotho at the time reportedly intervened on Jonathan's behalf. Obasanjo too met President Buhari earlier today in the Villa behind closed doors.
No aide joined the two leaders for the closed-door parley.

Critics accuse President dos Santos, who has ruled since 1979, of being increasingly authoritarian.

Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), counsel to Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation and director of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, yesterday told an FCT High Court, Apo, Abuja that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) asked his client to produce $1million as part of his bail term, which he has not been able to meet.

Woman Accused Of Blasphemy Killed In Kano

An unidentified woman was yesterday killed at Yan Robobi in Kofar Wambai market in Kano by an irate mob, who accused her of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.

Sources revealed that the woman did not belong to any association in the market, making it difficult for any of the traders to contact security operatives to avert the disaster before she was eventually hacked to death by the angry mob.

It was also gathered that the woman, who sold plastic wares, was in the company of her husband when she was brutally murdered.

The incident was said to have occurred when the market was preparing to close for the day’s business.

The victim was accused of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed during a religious argument, which ensued within the market.

An eyewitness, who spoke on account of anonymity, said some youths armed with dangerous weapons, attacked and slit the woman’s throat to the chagrin of other traders in the market.

It was also learnt that the remains of the woman had been deposited at the morgue, while investigation is in progress.

The spokesman of the state police command, Musa Magaji Majia, confirmed the incident.
